Why I Became an SMP Artist
Hi, I’m Glynn Lewin, owner of SMP Hair Solutions in Leicester. My journey into scalp micropigmentation began with my own experience of hair loss — and a treatment that went badly wrong.
I’ve always had a high forehead. At school I was often teased about it, so I grew a fringe and spent years trying to hide my hairline. When I began to notice some recession in my thirties, those old insecurities returned.
At 39, I decided to do something about it. I researched treatment options, although looking back, not nearly enough, and travelled to Cyprus for scalp micropigmentation.
A personal understanding
I’ve been in the client’s chair. I understand the questions, the nerves and how important it is to feel comfortable with the person carrying out your treatment.
My goal is to give every client the care, attention and natural-looking result I wish I’d received the first time.

MY EXPERIENCE
When My First Treatment Went Wrong
A difficult experience that changed the direction of my life.
The dots from my first treatment were too large to resemble natural hair follicles. Over time, they turned blue. I later learned that the ink, application depth and technique had been unsuitable.
Removing that treatment meant undergoing 11 laser sessions. The process also left the front edge of my hairline looking thinner, making me even more self-conscious.
It was a frustrating experience, but it taught me just how important specialist training, appropriate pigments and careful technique really are.
A NEW DIRECTION
From SMP Client to Qualified Practitioner
Determined to put things right, I carried out much more research and eventually found a company that corrected my SMP. They also saw something in me: a perfectionist who takes pride in the smallest details and never settles for “that’ll do”.
They encouraged me to train as a practitioner. I went through extensive training and became a fully qualified scalp micropigmentation practitioner. What started as a personal setback became a profession I genuinely love.
Today, I use my experience to help clients make informed choices, understand their treatment and feel confident throughout the process.
